The question
Should every file live forever?
Not every file needs to be stored, indexed, remembered, or attached to an account. Some things just need to be sent, and then disappear. Tendly started from that.
Context
File sharing is usually built around storage. You upload the file, you get a link, and the file sits there until you remember to delete it, which most people never do. That works for documents you actually want to keep. It is the wrong default for a password, a signed form, or a photo you are sending to one person once.
Building it
Tendly is built around low-friction sharing, privacy, and expiry by default. It should be easy to send a sensitive file or note without the action turning into a full storage system, so the interface stays at upload, share, expire.
What surprised me
Privacy becomes easier to understand when it is attached to a behavior the user can see. “This file will disappear” lands in a way that a long privacy policy does not, which means the promise has to be visible on the first screen rather than explained on a separate page.
What I learned
Expiry is a feature people choose the product for, not a limitation they tolerate. A small tool can feel substantial when it does one thing clearly, and for a privacy tool that mostly means removing decisions the user would otherwise have to make.
